Things We’re Watching

Ontario Sheep Farmers (OSF) is closely monitoring key issues that impact the sheep industry’s sustainability and growth. The two issues we are keeping our eye on going into 2025 include:

• Deadstock: Addressing challenges in deadstock management is essential for biosecurity, environmental protection, and compliance with regulations. OSF is engaged in finding solutions to support producers with practical and sustainable options.

• Environment & Climate Change: As the agricultural sector adapts to changing environmental conditions, OSF advocates for policies that balance sustainability with productivity. From carbon reduction initiatives to soil and water management, OSF is actively supporting programs that help sheep farmers mitigate and adapt to climate change.

• Proposed Changes to the Milk Act to Include Adding Sheep Milk. The government is proposing changes to the Milk Act that will include adding sheep milk under the Act and developing new regulations for sheep milk production, transport and processing. Click here for more information
